Floating epic

The Shaanxi Tourism Corporation Group has made history in Chinese theater with the production of The Song of Everlasting Sorrow, the country'€™s first large scale, real-scene historical dance drama.

The tragic romance between Xuan Zong, a Tang dynasty emperor and his concubine, Yang Yuhuan, is popular for its outdoor stage set against the magnificent natural backdrop of the Lishan Mountain and the Nine-Dragon Lake at the Huaqing Hot Springs in Lintong County, 30 kilometers from Xian City, using elements of the existing ancient architectural complex such as pavilions, colonnades and weeping willows as part of the scenery.

The stage for the production is unique. The artists perform on the surface of the lake, where mountains and trees form the natural backdrop for the 1,000 square-meter water stage, which is set up slightly beneath the surface of the water and fixed on top of a mechanical lift.

The show features almost 300 performers and boasts a 700 square-meter foldable soft LED screen, an Italian fragrant spreading system, laser effects and never ending fireworks underneath a million flickering stars in a dream sky with fog rolling down an imaginary cascading waterfall.
