he government has set a parity price for beef to assess the necessity for imports. Trade Ministry director general for foreign trade Bachrul Chairi said on Wednesday that the price was set at Rp 76,000 (US$6.75) per kilogram.
Beef will be allowed to be imported when the domestic price reaches the level, and once the price exceeds the level by 15 percent, additional imports will be authorized.
'However, we will not permit imports if the price goes 5 percent below the reference price,' he announced at the House of Representatives.
Bachrul added that importers should realize at least 70 percent of the annual import allocation that they proposed to the government.
