andidates supported by the Golkar Party ' as well as other major parties ' on Thursday won the regional head elections in two regencies and one city in South Sulawesi.
Quick counts conducted by the Celebes Research Center (CRC) in Parepare city and Enrekang and Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) regencies found that Golkar candidates won the regional elections by a significant margin.
In Parepare city, Taufan Pawe-Faisal Andi Sapada defeated four other candidate pairs and clinched more than 41 percent of the vote from a total of some 96,700 voters.
The ticket is also being supported by the National Mandate Party (PAN), the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Indonesian Youth Party (PPI).
In Enrekang, Muslimin-Amiruddin had a provisional lead, garnering more than 53 percent from some 147,400 voters. They defeated three other candidate pairs.
Other than Golkar, the pair also received support from a coalition that includes PAN, the Democrat Party, the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Meanwhile in Sidrap, Rusdi Masse-Dollah Mando enjoyed a possible landslide victory of some 57 percent from some 229,140 voters.
Defeating six other tickets, Rusdi-Dollah were endorsed by five other parties in addition to Golkar.
'The results of our quick counts showed that candidates supported by the Golkar Party have won the regional elections in the three regions,' CRC director Herman Heizer said on Thursday.
He added that his institution took samples from 150 polling stations in each region with a margin error of one percent.
Earlier this year, Golkar won the South Sulawesi gubernatorial election when incumbents Syahrul Yasin Limpo-Agus Arifin Nu'mang were victorious in January by securing some 53 percent of votes.
They were installed in April after a losing candidate filed a lawsuit protesting the incumbent's victory.
Syahrul is also the chairman of Golkar's Regional Executive Board for South Sulawesi.
