Police arrest alleged firearm business financier

he National Police have announced the arrest of a man who allegedly financed anumber of illegal firearm businesses. The man, identified only as KL, wasapprehended in Pasar Baru, North Jakarta, on Wednesday.

According to the police, KL was allegedly connected with illegal firearm merchant Iqbal Khusaeni, alias Iboy, who was arrested by the Densus 88 counterterrorism squad in Cipacing, West Java, on Sunday.

Prior to KL's arrest, the police also arrested a firearms buyer identified as Agus Martin in Lamongan, East Java.

'€œKL allegedly buys and sells firearms and finances a number of illegal firearm businesses. The investigation is still underway,'€ National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Tribunnews.com.

Agus said KL, who lived in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, was officially employed as an airsoft gun seller.

'€œSo far our investigation has found that he had sold around 15 firearms to Iqbal, alias Iboy,'€ Agus said.

Agus added that KL had also sold around 35 firearms to other suspects, yet to be detained, and that he had financed a number of homemade weapons producers in West Java. One of them, identified as Barkah, had been arrested by the police.

'€œBarkah had made and sold around 50 weapons to date,'€ Agus said. (hrl/dic)
