t least 180 public transportation vehicles were impounded in a series of raids from July 25 to Aug. 28, beritajakarta.com reported on Friday.

"The vehicles failed to pass the roadworthiness test," Sunardi Sinaga, head of operational and control division at the city transportation agency, said at City Hall.

The impounded vehicles comprised 108 Metro Mini buses, 27 Kopaja minibuses and a total of 45 taxis, buses, three wheeled bajaj and trucks.

The city administration plans to replace unroadworthy buses with new ones as part of its strategy to encourage motorists to shift to public transportation.
