nvestigators at the Jambi Natural Resource Conservation Agency (BKSDA) have yet to identify a suspect in the recent death of two African lions and a Sumatran tiger at Taman Rimba Zoo.
Laboratory tests show that the three endangered animals were poisoned by meat laced with strychnine, a highly toxic alkaloid used as a pesticide.
"We are still conducting a thorough investigation. So far, we have had no results," said Jambi BKSDA acting head Nurazman.
He could not confirm suspicions of inside involvement in the case. He said that his investigators had questioned two meat distributors, a zoo-keeper and a night-watchman.
Meanwhile, Taman Rimba Zoo head Adrianis declined to comment on the case, saying that he was now focusing on treating Ayu, a Sumatran tiger which survived after eating the poisoned meat.
