Director general of water resource affairs at the Public Works Ministry Muhammad Hasan said after a meeting with relevant officials at the city administration that the megaproject was aimed at controlling flooding and that his ministry was still finalizing the project's budget and design.
'Insya Allah [God willing], the first phase of construction will start in mid-2014,' he said
Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said he requested that the groundbreaking ceremony be held earlier than planned so that the project could be completed ahead of schedule.
'We have also spoken about work division between the administration and the ministry,' he said.
