Former Gorontalo Police chief Brig
ormer Gorontalo Police chief Brig. Gen. Budi Waseso urged his successor, Brig. Gen. Andjaja, to continue investigating a number of corruption cases, including one implicating the province's Governor Rusli Habibie.
"He [Andjaja] should pay attention to corruption, which is still a major problem [in the province]. I have been handling 17 cases, which will be handed over to the new chief," Budi said after a swearing-in ceremony at National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.
One of the 17 cases is the misappropriation of free basic foodstuffs, in which Rusli has been questioned as a witness. The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) claimed that Rusli, a Golkar Party politician, had engaged in political maneuvering to oust Budi from his position.
Budi was dismissed from his position last week and transferred to become an instructor in the National Police's Staff and Command School (Sespim).
His dismissal raised suspicions that National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo has bowed to political pressure.
Budi shrugged off the rumors, claiming that Timur had in fact promoted him. "If I have had problems, I certainly would not have been made a two-star general [inspector general]," he said.
