Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo promised that he would no longer issue permits to build shopping malls in the capital
Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo promised that he would no longer issue permits to build shopping malls in the capital.
"At the moment, there are 173 shopping malls in Jakarta. There must be a balance in the development, thus, I have stopped issuing shopping mall building permits," he said while delivering a public lecture at the Institute of Koranic Science (PTIQ) in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, on Monday.
Jokowi pointed out that Jakarta had many authentic buildings, which represented the capital's diversity.
"We have the Istiqlal and Sunda Kelapa mosques [..] such buildings tell us so much about the capital's economic, social and cultural history. Now we have a lot of skyscrapers," he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
The governor promised that he would build more public spaces.
"Public spaces will allow families to enjoy healthy outings," he said.
He also promised to allocate Rp 5 billion (US$439,483) to build a mosque in the PTIQ complex.
