he Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has encouraged hotel and tourism business players to start investing in the eastern part of Indonesia, in tandem with the government's plan to develop infrastructure there.
"They [the tourism business players] are no longer focusing on western Indonesia, but [they] have been starting to adhere to the MP3EI," said ministry official Syamsul Lussa, referring to the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development, on Wednesday.
The master plan, which was launched in 2011, has six different corridors with different focal points as well. Corridor five covers Bali and Nusa Tenggara, focusing on tourism and food.
Investment in Indonesia's tourism sector soared 210.86 percent to US$ 869.8 million in 2012, driven by strong economic growth. There was no specific target for this year but the ministry "doesn't want it to be less than last year," said Syamsul.
