Dul'€™s case should not reach trial: Official

A

n official warned the policeto reconsider its intention to prosecute singer Ahmad Dani'€™s son '€” identifiedas AQJ or Dul '€” for his part in a recent fatal car crash due to the boy'€™s age.

'€œLaw No. 11/2012 on the child crime trial system stipulates a minor suspected of criminal activity should be put under the custody of either the parents or the Social Affairs Ministry for educational and disciplinary action. There is no option of detention or jail,'€ child protection task force head Muhammad Ichsan said on Thursday. Tribunnews.com reported.

However, he went on, the police should be allowed to question Dul regarding the car crash and after the police completed its questioning then a recommendation could be made and the minor handed over to his parents.

He said professional assistance would also be necessary to ensure the boy'€™s parents disciplined their child.

Dul was named suspect in a fatal car crash that claimed the lives of seven people on the city toll road on Sept. 8. Dul was hospitalized for almost three weeks following the crash and has undergone five different operations while at Pondok Indah Hospital. (apt/dic)
