'€˜Muslim parties don'€™t stand a chance'€™: Yudi

P

olitical analyst Yudi Latief has said that a coalitionof Muslim-based political parties would perform poorly in the 2014 legislativeelection.

He said voters would only identify themselves with figures whom they considered reputable.

'€œI am not so sure about their chances of winning. Voters will choose candidates who they feel close to, rather than basing their choice on religious grounds,'€ Yudi said as quoted by kompas.com.

The Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) found in a survey last year that in a general election, major Islamic parties, including the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party (PPP), would each get less than 5 percent of the vote, while collectively, they would only garner 21.1 percent of the vote.
