lecturer from the Department of Social Sciences atGorontalo State University (UNG), Joni Apriyanto, has denied all allegations ofplagiarism against him.
Joni has been accused of plagiarizing data in his book published in 2012 from a book written by sociology lecturer Alim Niode, who also works at UNG. Joni allegedly copied at least 14 paragraphs from Alim's book, which was published in 2007.
'In the name of God, I did not copy data from Alim Niode's book. I was sloppy,' said Joni, who was named Teacher of Year in 2013.
'I used Alim's book as a reference. I credited him in my book, but during the editing process, I did not recheck the book carefully. I apologize for this,' Joni, adding that he had apologized to Alim.
Joni also claimed that he had been asked the publisher of his book, Ombak, to make a correction.
Meanwhile, UNG dean Syamsu Qomar Badu said his office was still investigating the case. 'If he [Joni] is found guilty, he might face various sanctions. We could prohibit him from publishing any articles or scientific works. We could also dismiss him from his position,' Syamsu said.
