Veteran singer Diana Nasution, best-known for her hit single, '€œBenci Tapi Rindu'€ (I Hate You but I Miss You), passed away on Friday at 12:45 a.m. after being treated at the Gading Pluit Hospital in North Jakarta for digestive
problems.

'€œShe lost her voice due to pain in her stomach. We thought the pain was due to her breast cancer, but it was her stomach,'€ her husband, songwriter Minggus Tahitoe, said as quoted by antaranews.com.

In an interview with Kompas.com last year, Diana revealed that she was suffering from breast cancer, and admitted that she had not sought a check-up early enough. '€œIt was because I did not know enough about it, and I was afraid.'€

In the interview, Diana, who was born in April 6, 1958, said that her '€œfamily and many friends are being very supportive. And the disease [breast cancer] can be cured'€.

The couple'€™s son, singer Marcello Tahitoe or Ello, as he is better known, canceled the remainder of his current tour on Thursday and returned to Jakarta to be at his mother'€™s side.

Diana rose to fame in 1977 when she sang a duet with her sister, Rita Nasution. Thereafter, she sang pop songs written by her husband, such as '€œBila Cengkeh Berbunga'€ (When the Clove Tree Blossoms) and '€œMalam yang Dingin'€ (Cold Night), and some by songwriter Rinto Harahap, including '€œBenci Tapi Rindu'€ and '€œJangan Biarkan'€ (Don'€™t Leave).

Three years ago, Diana performed with Titi DJ in a concert and sang her hit, '€œBenci Tapi Rindu'€.
