ndonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) signed a plan of action for the implementation of a comprehensive partnership between the two countries on the sidelines of the 25th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday.
Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and his PNG counterpart, Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato, signed the agreement, it was witnessed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Peter Charles Paire O'Neill.
'This is a follow up of the prime minister's visit to Indonesia. The two countries can now focus on a real target to increase bilateral relations,' said Marty after the signing of agreement as quoted by Antara news agency.
The minister said by signing the agreement, both countries were geared toward a partnership that was clearer and more measurable.
According to Marty, PNG plays a crucial role due to the border areas it shared with Indonesia. At the same time, he said, PNG wanted to continue bilateral relations and avoid anything that could disrupt relations between the two countries. PNG, he added, had also been consistent in supporting Indonesia's sovereignty.
Indonesia and Vietnam also signed a plan of action for the implementation of strategic partnership for the period of 2014-2018. (ebf)
