witness in the graft trial of former Prosperous JusticeParty (PKS) chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq has said that he gave Rp 1.7 billion(US$150,000) in cash to the politician.
Businessman Yudi Setiawan said that he paid the money to Luthfi after receiving a guarantee from Luthfi that he would win a project from the Agriculture Ministry.
Yudi said that he gave the money in stages. 'First I paid Rp 250 million and then Rp 500 million, another Rp 500 million and Rp 450 million,' he said in his testimony on Monday.
The Bandung-based businessman said that he got to know Luthfi after being introduced by his aide Ahmad Fathanah.
Yudi, who has been named a suspect in an embezzlement case involving two banks in West Java, had earlier revealed that the PKS aimed to raise Rp 2 trillion from three ministries to fund the party's campaign for the 2014 general election.
Yudi also claimed to have handed millions of rupiah to a number of PKS executives through Ahmad Fathanah, one of the suspects in the beef-import graft case involving Luthfi.
During Monday's trial hearing, Yudi also alleged United Development Party (PPP) law maker, M. Romahurmuziy, received $130,000 from him.
