land execution attempt has triggered local residents toblock Jl. I Gusti Ngurah Rai, in Buaran, East Jakarta, thus crippling the trafficand forcing hundreds of people to seek new routes to their destinations.
Sri Suhartati, a teacher, said it took her two hours to get to her school that is located in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, which normally would only take her 30 minutes or less.
'No cars moved at all. They all just stopped. It was really frustrating,' she said on Wednesday.
According to Tempo.co reports, the land execution had been ordered by PT Graha Cipta Karisma (GCK) as the company claimed to be the rightful owner of the land there. However, the attempt then provoked further resistance from hundreds of people who had lived on the land for years.
This is not the first road blockade ever organized, in May this year, the residents had even flattened the tires of crossing vehicles and also a Transjakarta bus in order to prevent the police from allowing the execution.(dic)
