The ambassador was welcomed by the Surakarta deputy mayor Achmad Purnomo at the mayor's office on Wednesday.
'I hope that this visit will tighten the relationship between Surakarta and South Africa,' Achmad said.
He then took the ambassador to visit several popular tourist destinations like the Kauman village, home to famous batik clothing and the Surakarta royal palace. He added that it was greatly expected that the ambassador would get to know Batik more.

'Surakarta has been very famous, even in South Africa. As for the batik, we have been very familiar with it as Nelson Mandela also wore batik during his presidency,' he said.
He suggested that both regions could initiate various programs like student exchange, tourism promotion and waste management to materialize further cooperation.
