he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questionedformer youth and sports minister Andi Mallarangeng in Jakarta on Friday in hiscapacity as a suspect in a graft case focusing on the construction of theHambalang sports center in Bogor, West Java.
'I have no idea what the accusations are against me, but as a good citizen, I will follow the existing procedure of the law. Regarding a possible arrest today, I am ready to face it,' said Andi, who is also a former high-ranking member of the ruling Democratic Party (PD).
The KPK, however, did not arrest Andi, despite its pledge to detain him after receiving an audit report on the Hambalang project from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). Andi was named a suspect in late December 2012.
Starting last year, the KPK conducted an investigation into corruption linked to purchases of Hambalang sports facilities in 2010-2011, allegedly committed by Andi as the sports minister, along with his friends.
Aside from Andi, the KPK has named two other suspects; former planning bureau chief of the Youth and Sports Ministry Deddy Kusdinar for his role as a planning officer in the Hambalang project, and former operations director of PT Adhi Karya, Teuku Bagus Mukhamad Noor.
