Boat owner Khaironi admitted the boat was second-hand but said it had been used three times by the regency administration on working visits to nearby islands, one of which was as far as Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
He also said the vessel was not yet fully owned by the local administration, as the total payment had yet to be settled. According to him, the administration had agreed to pay Rp 4.5 billion when it purchased the vessel back in 2006, but until now it had only paid Rp 2.5 billion.
