Fifteen priests and 34 prospective pastors are set to be involved with the staging of the play Punokawan Menggugat
ifteen priests and 34 prospective pastors are set to beinvolved with the staging of the play Punokawan Menggugat. The play, which will be performed at a hotel in Semarang, Central Java, will be directedby noted musician Djaduk Ferianto.
Djaduk said the opera would contain social criticism. 'The Punokawan, in traditional puppetry, is the custodian of rulers, but his advice is often ignored. Now, the pastors will play the Punokawan. I guarantee that the opera will be funnier than the political stage in the country,' said Djaduk on Wednesday.
The opera will contain a mixture of ethnic and pop music. 'Among the musicians involved in the play are Susilo Den Baguse Ngarsa, Trio GAM, Maria Dona Arsinta, Joice Triatman and Didik Nini Thowok, who will play Buta Cakil,' added Djaduk.
The priests who will take on the main roles include Romo FX Sukendar Wignyo Sumarta, Romo M. Djoko Setya Prakosa and Romo Dwi Prasetya.
The prospective pastors who will be involved in the play hail from the Kentungan High Seminary in Yogyakarta and the Rohani Sanjaya Seminary in Jangli, Semarang.
