he British Council, UNICEF and UK Sport have introducedthe International Inspiration program in Indonesia to inspire children to learnleadership and teamwork skills through sports.
'We believe that sport is a good way for children, teachers and social workers to learn [and apply] leadership skills and team working skills,' Mark Crossey director programmes at the British Council Indonesia told a press conference here on Tuesday.
The program began in 2010 covering 300 elementary and junior high schools in Jakarta, Subang (West Java), Pasuruan and Surabaya (East Java), and Bone (South Sulawesi).
'The idea is to work in urban and rural areas to offer inclusive education to young people. We want children to participate and play sports together,' said Mark Lucet UNICEF Indonesia deputy head representative.
The program was conceived as the official London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy initiative.
UNICEF would cease to provide the program with funds at the end of 2013, however, capacity building provided to physical education teachers during the program would remain and maintain the sustainability of the program in Indonesia, Lucet said.
