Visa promotes financial literacy

F

inancial services company, Visa, has picked Indonesia as the first country in Southeast Asia to launch its mobile app which is aimed at helping travelers manage their travel budget.

PT Visa Worldwide Indonesia president director, Ellyana Fuad, said the application, available for free download from Android'€™s Play Store and Apple'€™s App Store, was part of their financial literacy campaign.

A financial literacy study conducted by Visa in 2012 found that Indonesia ranked 27th of 28 countries, the last being Pakistan, on financial literacy. The study showed that only one out of three Indonesians had a personal expense book to control their spending.

'€œThat is why we have chosen to launch a mobile app because Indonesians love to travel, and when they travel, they always have their mobile phones at hand,'€ Fuad said.

A study conducted by Visa on global travel revealed that Indonesians were highly prudent in their budget and expenses while traveling.

The app, named Travel Budget or Anggaran Wisata, has been customized for the Indonesian market. It offers travel tips such as affordable accommodation, transportation and restaurants.
