10,000 MW project 70% complete: PLN

tate utility company PT PLN (Persero) has targeted that the first stage of a 10,000 megawatt (MW) fast-track program will be 70 percent completed by the end of 2013.

The company'€™s director of construction and new and renewable energy, Nasri Sebayang, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that 5,707 MW out of a total electricity capacity of 9,975 MW in the first fast track project had been completed.

'€œAt the moment, a 2,119 MW power plant is in the construction phase while a 2,115 MW power plant has moved to the commissioning phase,'€ said Nasri as quoted by Antara news agency.

Overall, he said, the first stage of the 10,000 MW fast track project would be completed in 2014.

For the commissioning projects, Nasri said, it was targeted that 1,175 MW of the power plant could operate this year, followed by 970 MW in 2014.

He said a 110 MW steam power plant - PLTU Nagan Raya Unit 1 in Aceh - which was set to operate by the end of 2013, would be used to tackle the electricity supply deficit in North Sumatra.

The completion of other projects, such as PLTU Tarahan in Lampung and PLTU Tenayan in Riau, would increase electricity capacities, strengthening the sufficient supply of power in the region.

'€œThis can reduce the risks of rotating outage,'€ said Nasri.

The power plant projects that have moved into the commissioning stages and will complete by the end of 2013 are Tanjung Awar-Awar (East Java), Tanjung Balai Karimun (Riau Islands), Pelabuhan Ratu (West Java), Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi), Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) and Barru (South Sulawesi).

Other projects that are still in the commissioning stages but will be complete in 2014 are Pelabuhan Ratu (West Java), Tarahan Baru (Lampung), Bangka (Babel) and Nagan Raya (Aceh).

Projects that are in the construction stage comprise Adipala (Central Java), Pangkalan Susu (North Sumatra), Belitung (Babel), Teluk Sirih (West Sumatra), Bengkayan (West Kalimantan) and Balikpapan Gulf (East Kalimantan).

'€œThe construction process of 236.5 MW power plants will be completed in 2013 and 1882.5 MW in 2014,'€ Nasri said. (ebf)
