etallica is getting ready for a gig in one of the most remote parts of the planet: Antarctica.
'After over 30 years as a band, we have been unbelievably fortunate to visit just about every corner of the earth '¦ except for one,' the band said on its website. 'That is all about to change as we are set travel to Antarctica, the only continent that Metallica has never played on until now!!'
The titans of rock are set to perform on Dec. 8 at the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini.
Rockers won't need their earmuffs, though. Perhaps to preserve the hearing of nearby penguins, Metallica will performed without amplification and the music piped in to the audience, to be selected as part of a contest sponsored by Coke Zero, via headphones.
