he Democratic Party has said that President SusiloBambang Yudhoyono has been victimized by the media and that he has the right todefend himself.
'That's how he feels. Other parties have problems as well, but the media only focuses on the Democratic Party. This is unfair,' said Andi Nurpati, deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Party, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Andi also said that the President did not complain publicly and only aired his grievances to members of the party.
She went on to say that the intense media attacks might be due to the fact that many media outlets in the country were controlled by rival politicians.
'We know that some media outlets are controlled by leaders of political parties,' Andi said.
During his visit to West Kalimantan last week, Yudhoyono complained that the media had cast a negative light on himself and his policies, including his latest appointment of Insp. Gen. Sutarman as National Police chief.
Late last week, Yudhoyono repeated his complaints in front of party members who gathered in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, for a national meeting.
