Hamdan Zoelva elected as new Constitutional Court chief justice

eputy Constitutional Court ChiefHamdan Zoelva has been elected as the new chief justice, replacing Akil Mochtarwho is currently detained at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) jail overgraft charges. Hamdan, who is also former politician, won the post after atwo-part election process, beating another candidate, judge Arief Hidayat.

'€œGod willing, I will hold this position with dignity and integrity. I hope that everyone would pray for me so I can do my job well,'€ Hamdan, a former Crescent Star Party (PBB) politician, said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

He said he was ready to restore the court'€™s dignity, which has taken a plunge since Akil'€™s arrest.

Beforehand, the Constitutional Court'€™s honorary council recommended that the court dismiss Akil Mochtar because he had violated code of conduct. (dic)
