Examples of countries that retain a 'native' identity while welcoming multi-culturalism include the United States, the UK and to a limited extent 'the land down under'.
Globalization has affected countries the world over, but as a result tolerance has also been stretched as people resist cultural invasion from abroad.
In the case of Singapore, the city state is a cynosure and global hub for travelers from across the globe, for it to stay in the limelight the need for tolerance of outsiders must be underscored and underpinned.
The essence of being 'Singaporean' need not be under threat as long as the people choosing to stay there respect and adhere to the values and ethos of the city state.
