uryanto, 52, the father of Nucky Nugroho, 26, a securityguard who was shot dead in Semarang, has said that he does not accept the one-yearsentence handed down by the Semarang District Court on Thursday to a drunkpoliceman who shot his son.

Muryanto on Friday voiced his protests against the Central Java Police chief, who had promised to take stern action against the perpetrator.

While drunk, First Brig. Priya Yustianto, a member of the Sabhara patrol unit at the Semarang City Police, jokingly aimed his pistol and shot Nucky while he was resting on June 15. The bullet pierced through the back of his head, immediately killing him.

During the trial on Thursday, presiding judge Togar sentenced Priya to a year in prison, which is lighter than the 1.5 years sought by prosecutors. The judges found the defendant to have violated Article 359 of the Criminal Code on negligence resulting in the loss of a person'€™s life.

Muryanto went to the Central Java Police headquarters alone with a large photo of his son hanging around his neck. He wore a pink shirt filled with writings such as '€œNo protection for common people in Indonesia'€ and '€œWhere is justice?'€.

'€œI'€™m disappointed with the sentence handed down by the judges. A policeman who shot dead an innocent citizen should be punished harshly,'€ he said.
