E

ight hundred members of the Roundtable on SustainablePalm Oil (RSPO) will attend the 11th sustainable palm oil meeting, which willbe held on Tuesday in Medan, North Sumatra.

The members represent 30 countries including Malaysia, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, India, Japan, China, the US, Colombia, Brazil and Ghana.

The annual meeting will focus on RSPO standards.

An advisor to the RSPO, Bungaran Saragih, a former agriculture minister, said on Monday it was the first time for the RSPO to hold its annual meeting in a palm oil-producing city. The last meeting was held in Singapore.

'€œThis year, we plan to hold an annual RSPO meeting in North Sumatra '€” the biggest and the oldest palm oil producing province in Sumatra,'€ he told a press conference at the Santika Hotel in Medan.

RSPO Indonesia director Desi Kusumadewi said unlike previous meetings, the RSPO would involve international industry players in discussions.

This year'€™s meeting, she said, would also stress a multi-stakeholder approach in dealing with different perspectives and priorities to achieve a similar goal.

The RSPO has 1,338 members worldwide, including 110 in Indonesia alone.

Among the members are plantation and palm oil businessmen, bankers, investors, retailers, traders, manufacturers and activists from social and environmental non-profit organizations.
