Yogya hosts Global Culture Festival

D

ozens of university students from 26 countries who are studying at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) joined the 6th Global Culture Festival on Wednesday.

'€œBy joining the festival, they will not be like a frog in a coconut shell, caged in their own cultures and customs, but will have knowledge of the importance of cultural diversity,'€ said the chairman of the event'€™s organizing committee, Satoto.

According to Satoto, who is also head of the university'€™s partnership and international affairs office, the students'€™ cultures were assets that would develop universities to be globally competitive.

Apart from a parade of traditional costumes from the respective participants, the festival also presented an international and traditional culinary festival.

A participant, R. Sotlikova from Uzbekistan, said he was happy to gain knowledge of traditional costumes from different countries that were worn by other participants.
