ozens of university students from 26 countries who are studying at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) joined the 6th Global Culture Festival on Wednesday.
'By joining the festival, they will not be like a frog in a coconut shell, caged in their own cultures and customs, but will have knowledge of the importance of cultural diversity,' said the chairman of the event's organizing committee, Satoto.
According to Satoto, who is also head of the university's partnership and international affairs office, the students' cultures were assets that would develop universities to be globally competitive.
Apart from a parade of traditional costumes from the respective participants, the festival also presented an international and traditional culinary festival.
A participant, R. Sotlikova from Uzbekistan, said he was happy to gain knowledge of traditional costumes from different countries that were worn by other participants.
