A recent survey has shown that most people are oblivious to the presidential convention held by the ruling Democratic Party (PD).
The Founding Fathers House (FFH), which conducted the survey, said of 1,070 respondents in 34 provinces, 76 percent said they had never heard of the party's mechanism to select a presidential nominee. 'Only 24 percent of respondents knew of the presidential convention, which was initiated in May,' FFH researcher Dian Permata said.
He said the party's attempt to boost popularity by holding the convention would likely be met with failure. Of the 24 percent with knowledge of the convention, 89 percent did not know who the contestants were, he added.
The PD's convention officially kicked off on Sept. 15 and will run through to April next year. Among the 11 participants are Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) member Ali Masykur Musa; State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan; Indonesian Ambassador to the US Dino Patti Djalal; former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Endriartono Sutarto; Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker Irman Gusman.
