he Tangerang Police have arrested Ahmad Marju Kodri,president director of the Tangerang municipality-owned tap water company PDAMTirta Benteng for his alleged involvement of in a graft case in the company.

Tangerang police chief detective  Adj. Sr. Comr. Sutarmo said that Kodri was arrested and placed in the police'€™s detention center for further processing after the suspect underwent a marathon questioning late on Thursday.

'€œBased on the questioning, the suspect admits to have abused his power to enrich other parties in the spending of the PDAM budget without any approval from the Tangerang mayor and the company'€™s supervisory board,'€ Sutarmo said.

The graft case was raised when the branch of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) in the municipality filed a request with Kodri in his capacity as PDAM president director to sponsor the municipality'€™s soccer team during the 2012 league competition.

The suspect embezzled Rp 500 million from the company'€™s budget to the municipality'€™s soccer team to garner their support for his candidacy in the 2012 mayoral election.

The funds'€™ embezzlement was discovered by the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) when it carried out an audit of the tap water company at the end of 2012.

 '€œBased on our investigation into the case, the suspect will be indicted for violating Articles 3 and 8 of the 2001 anticorruption law carrying a maximum 20 year prison sentence,'€ Sutarmo said, adding the police were still looking for others that might be involved in the case.
