US official urged Bangladesh'€™s feuding politicians onMonday to hold a dialogue to end their impasse, as the country'€™s mainopposition party rejected an invitation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tojoin what she calls an all-party government to oversee national electionsscheduled for January.

Hasina, meanwhile, appointed eight ministers to an interim election-time administration, a move likely to increase tensions ahead of the polls. Two are from her ruling Awami League and the others from outside the party.

The formation of the interim government '€œunderscores the urgency of immediate dialogue'€ between the government and the opposition, visiting US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Desai Biswal told reporters after meeting separately with Hasina and her bitter enemy, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia
