Jakarta Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono said that an electronic road pricing (ERP) system would be implemented at the start of the second quarter next year
akarta Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono saidthat an electronic road pricing (ERP) system would be implemented at the startof the second quarter next year.
He said the system would replace the existing three-in-one traffic regulation, which is applied on the capital's roads during peak hours.
'We will apply ERP at the end of March at the earliest. We will establish a business unit to manage its implementation,' he said at City Hall on Monday, adding that the city administration would be responsible for preparing the necessary infrastructure.
'The Jakarta Traffic Police will enforce the law and supervise the implementation, while the Taxation Agency will manage the income generated by the ERP system,' he said.
The ERP system will be applied on all current three-in-one roads plus Jl. HR Rasuna Said, as those areas have an adequate number of Transjakarta buses. The city aims to set road pricing fees from Rp 21,000 (US$1.8) on up.
Meanwhile, 756 new buses are due to be introduced onto the city's streets by the end of the year. They will comprise 310 Transjakarta buses and 346 medium-sized buses. 'The buses will be managed by a unit under the Transportation Agency,' Udar said.
