T Dutasari Citralaras director Mahfud Suroso has deniedthe allegation that he played a role in the graft case centering on theconstruction of the Hambalang sports complex in Bogor, West Java.
Speaking after being questioned by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators, Mahfud, through his lawyer Saiful Ahmad Dinar, said that he did not receive illicit money from the project.
'There was no (illicit money), I can guarantee that, its all a lie,' Saiful told reporters at the KPK's headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
PT Dutasari, which was subcontracted by the project's tender winner, PT Adhi Karya, allegedly received Rp 28 billion (US$2.4 million) from the project.
Saiful, however, said that his client was a scapegoat in the graft case. He added that he was confident that Mahfud would be able to prove his innocence.
'First, we will prove how much money went into Dutasari. Then how much the project cost. So that it will be clear whether there was a loss or gain [in the project],' Saiful said.
He also responded to a report that said his client had frequently visited Adhi Karya's office after being named a suspect in early November, saying that Mahfud did so to ask the company to pay its debt.
