political analyst from the University of Indonesia saidthat it would be a missed opportunity for the Indonesian Democratic Party ofStruggle (PDI-P) if it did not nominate popular Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi'Widodo as its candidate in the 2014 presidential election.
Ari Junaedi said that Jokowi's electability rating was at an all-time high and the PDI-P would not have to work hard to promote his candidacy.
'Once his name is announced as a presidential candidate, legislative candidates from the PDI-P would benefit from it. Also, it will be easy for them to sell his candidacy,' Ari said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that if the PDI-P failed to nominate Jokowi, its leadership should accept the possibility of being the opposition party once again.
Party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri has yet to announce whether the party would nominate Jokowi for the 2014 presidential poll, although she has indicated support for the Jakarta governor.
