West Java Police chief Insp
est Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Suhardi Alius has beenappointed as National Police criminal investigations chief, replacing Gen.Sutarman, who now serves as National Police chief.
'He [Suhardi] has integrity, competence and broad experience. Therefore, Wanjakti [the police's Rank and Promotion Council] decided to pick Suhardi to replace me,' Sutarman said on Monday.
Prior to serving as West Java Police chief, Suhardi held several positions in the investigations division. He served as Jakarta Police general criminal investigations head in 2005 and National Police special criminal investigations chief between 2009 and 2011.
Suhardi is considered one of the youngest generals to take up the position as chief of the National Police criminal investigations division. The 51-year-old general graduated from the Military Academy in 1985. Sutarman, meanwhile, graduated in 1981.
'I don't pick officers based on their graduation year. If I took that into account, then I would choose a 1981 graduate, right? The young general should have conviction in investigation of all crimes,' he said.
Separately, National Police Commission (Kompolnas) member Hamidah Abdurrahman said that Suhardi, given his age, could face resistance from his seniors.
'The National Police has deep-rooted seniority culture. Suhardi's biggest challenge is how he will treat his seniors and deal with internal or external interventions,' she said.
