Monorail construction halted temporarily

D

eveloper PT Jakarta Monorail has halted theconstruction of the monorail near Tugu 66 on Jl. HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, because the company is still conducting a feasibility study in the area.

Technical director Bovanantoo said that his company was in the process of testing the soil texture 30 meters beneath the area where new concrete foundations would be constructed.

He said that his company was also testing concrete foundations and poles that had been previously constructed in the area.

He said that the study was aimed at finding out how strong the previously-constructed foundations were. It was important to do this, because the foundations would have to sustain concrete rails, he added.

'€œIn addition, our consultant requests the latest data on the condition of the area before starting any new construction work,'€ he said on Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Bovanantoo said that the consultant, China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), would determine whether the diameter of the poles would be made larger or narrower. He said that the new construction work was expected to start next Saturday. '€œAfter completing the construction in Tugu 66, we will continue the construction work on Jl. Galunggung in Setiabudi district, South Jakarta, using a similar method to the construction work in Tugu 66 in the Dukuh Atas area,'€ he said.
