n a bid to improve health care for Jakarta'sunderprivileged citizens, the city administration is expanding the capacity ofpublic hospitals in the capital. Two city-owned hospitals, Koja Hospital inNorth Jakarta and Budhi Asih Hospital in East Jakarta, are expanding theircapacity by constructing new buildings.
'The two hospitals still lack public service facilities, that's why we have to expand them,' Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said during a ground-breaking ceremony at Koja Hospital on Wednesday.
Koja Hospital president director Togi Asman Sinaga said that the hospital would build a new 955-bed capacity building, with more than 90 percent of the beds allocated for third-class patients.
'The beds comprise 754 third-class beds, 18 second-class beds, 10 first-class beds and eight VIP beds. We will also allocate 165 beds for special rooms,' Togi said.
The special rooms will include three stroke units, 47 high-care units, 26 pediatric intensive care units, 24 neonatal intensive care units, 35 perinatology units and 30 intensive care units.
