akarta will host a World Music Festival 2013 thisweekend, during which numerous foreign musicians will showcase theirinterpretation of roots music.
The festival, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Ancol Art Market in North Jakarta, will feature various musicians playing a wide range of instruments from various countries, including Italy, Senegal, Zimbabwe and the US.
'Many or our musicians from various regions will also come and perform. Many people already know gamelan, but it's not the only traditional musical instrument from Indonesia so we want to show off our other traditional musical instruments as well,' festival artistic director Franki Raden said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Indonesian groups, including Debu (Jakarta), Nera (Jakarta), Kunokini (Jakarta), Kolintang Kawanua (Manado, North Sulawesi), Gondang Batak (North Sumatra), Sasando Gong (East Nusa Tenggara) and Ayu Laksmi & Svara Semesta (Bali), as well as foreign musicians like Oryelalela (Taninbar), Supakalulu (Zimbabwe) and Helga Fusion Band (Hungary) are slated to perform at the two-day event.
More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the festival
