he Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) commission is slated next month to give sustainable certificates to 21 firms running oil palm plantations nationwide.
The certificates would be passed after the commission's immediate meeting, said the Agriculture Ministry's director for postharvest and business coaching, Irmijati Rachmi Nurbahar, on Friday.
Another 70 firms were being audited by nine certification bodies, including PT Mutuagung Lestari, PT Mutu Hijau Indonesia, PT Sucofindo and PT BSI Indonesia, which had been appointed by the government, she added.
Last year, the commission granted similar certificates for 19 firms, such as PT Musim Mas, PT Perkebunan Nusantara V, PT Ivo Mas Tunggal and PT PP London Sumatra Indonesia.
The issuance of such certificates kicked off the government's effort to promote sustainable recognition for local palm oil generated by at least 881 plantations across the country, the world's biggest palm oil producer.
