rosperousJustice Party (PKS) chairman Anis Matta's decision to go public with hispolygamous life should not damage public opinion of the overall performance ofthe party, a party official said.
PKSlawmaker and deputy secretary-general Sitaresmi Soekanto said it was unfair forthe public to overlook PKS and Anis' leadership only because he had chosen todivulge his controversial polygamous lifestyle with the public.
"Insteadof discussing Pak Anis' private life, it will be more relevant to discuss hisideas on how to manage the country. It is actually his personal right to choose[a polygamous life]," she told TheJakarta Post on Tuesday.
Sitaresmi,a leading female PKS politician, however, did not urge the public to agree withAnis' preference.
"Thosewho want to follow it [polygamous lifestyle] must have, among others, a strongunderstanding of Islamic teachings as well as having a good source of income,"she said.
