Depokpolice chief Sr. Comr. Achmad Kartiko said the fire started at 6:30 a.m. andquickly spread to the entire building in less than an hour.
"However,there were no casualties at the scene," he told The Jakarta Post.
Atleast five fire trucks from Depok and South Jakartafire departments were seen at the scene.
Thethree-story building is home to the school's archives and several researchcenters, including the Center for Election and Political Party (CEPP), and theschool's famous sociology lab.
Agroup of UI sociology lecturers, including sociology professor Paulus Wirotomo,gathered in front of the ruins in shock.
"We'velost decades of hard work," a sociology lecturer said, crying.
