rosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Indra said onMonday that the national health insurance program (JKN) was not initiated byPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and should not be called 'SBY-care'.
'It is inappropriate that the universal healthcare for all Indonesians managed by the BPJS [Social Security Providers] be named SBY-care,' he said.
The PKS politician said the President should be honest with the people and not politicize the BPJS. 'Is it appropriate to call it SBY-care when the BPJS law was initiated by the House of Representatives?'
He argued that the government had been reluctant to pass the BPJS bill, which showed that the Yudhoyono administration actually did not care.
The President has never claimed the JKN as SBY-care. It was Coordinating People's Welfare Minister Agung Laksono who introduced the moniker, comparing the national health insurance program with the United States' Obamacare.
Yudhoyono announced the launch of the JKN on Dec. 31, a day before its implementation. 'Through the BPJS for the health and manpower sectors, I hope that I will no longer hear about workers without insurance and that there are people who cannot receive medical treatment due to financial reasons,' he said.
