The canisters, previously priced at Rp.3,500 per kg, are now priced at Rp. 1,000. The old price had allowed retailers to sell the 12-kg LPG canisters for Rp 120,000- Rp 300, 000 ,depending on location, while the new price has forced retailers to sell the canisters for Rp 89,000-Rp 120,000.
Fani, owner of Engseng shop, one of the retailers, said that she had purchased 10 12-kg LPG canisters for Rp125,800 per canister.
'I haven't been able to sell a canister since Pertamina announced the new price. Now who is going to pay for my losses?' she said.
Atep, another retailer on Jl. Caringin, acknowledged that he faced similar problems.
'I fully understand that this is a risk of doing business. But still, who's going to cover my losses?' he said.
Pertamina corporate communication vice president Ali Mundakir told a discussion held on TV One on Tuesday morning that the company would not cover the retailers' losses as they were deemed a part of business risks.(dic)
