etailers have askedstate oil company PT Pertamina to take responsibility for their lossesfollowing the announcement of the new price of 12-kilogram Liquefied PetroleumGas (LPG).

The canisters, previously priced at Rp.3,500 per kg, are now priced at Rp. 1,000. The old price had allowed retailers to sell the 12-kg LPG canisters for Rp 120,000- Rp 300, 000 ,depending on location, while the new price has forced retailers to sell the canisters for Rp 89,000-Rp 120,000.

Fani, owner of Engseng shop, one of the retailers, said that she had purchased 10 12-kg LPG canisters for Rp125,800 per canister.

'€œI haven'€™t been able to sell a canister since Pertamina announced the new price. Now who is going to pay for my losses?'€ she said.

Atep, another retailer on Jl. Caringin, acknowledged that he faced similar problems.

'€œI fully understand that this is a risk of doing business. But still, who'€™s going to cover my losses?'€ he said.

Pertamina corporate communication vice president  Ali Mundakir told a discussion held on TV One on Tuesday morning that the company would not cover the retailers'€™ losses as they were deemed a part of business risks.(dic)
