One of the protesters, Herman said he and his colleagues had not yet received their wages for December. He also claimed they had been receiving their wages in installment since August last year.
'Sometimes we receive 50 percent, 20 percent or even 15 percent of our pay. The remainder might be paid another day,' The 35-year-old said.
Herman said a bus driver received a monthly salary of Rp 2.6 million (US$216) while a conductor was paid Rp 2.1 million a month. 'There might be only a few hundred of us, but thousands of people depend on us,' he added.
