Prosecutors have demanded a one-year jail term for Benny Handoko, a Twitter user known for his critical tweets on @benhan.
Prosecutor Fahmi Iskandar said in his sentence demand that Benny was guilty of violating the 2008 Information and Electronic Transactions Law on the distribution of libellous materials.
Former Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker Misbakhun filed a defamation suit against Benny for calling him a 'robber' in his tweets about the Bank Century bailout.
Benny, who has been tweeting under the name Benhan, has 48,000 followers.
Misbakhun, who was implicated in a bogus letter of credit case concerning Bank Century but was eventually declared not guilty by the Supreme Court, was offended by Benny's remark. He asked Benny to retract his statement and apologize, but Benny refused to do so.
Prosecutors also said that the South Jakarta District Court should give Benny no leniency as he showed no signs that he regretted his actions.
'He should also be given probation of two years,' Fahmi said.
