he State Palace said that President Susilo BambangYudhoyono had declined the offer from Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen.Moeldoko to present him with honorary five-star general status.
State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said that although Yudhoyono appreciated the gesture, he would decline the honor.
Moeldoko said earlier on Thursday that Yudhoyono deserved to be made a five-star general for his efforts to improve the professionalism of the country's military.
'The President has shown a strong will to build TNI capacity and we have agreed that retired general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should be bestowed with five-star general status,' Moeldoko said.
Sudi said that Yudhoyono was only doing his job in trying to improve the TNI's professionalism.
'He has no ulterior motive; not for awards or recognition,' Sudi said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
