One man, identified as Sukarman, 40, a resident of Leuwijati village in Jonggol, Bogor, died at the scene, while another person who has not been identified was rushed to the Kramat Jati General Hospital to be treated for major head injuries.
Pasar Minggu Police chief Comr. Adri Desas said the theft was detected when two witnesses, identified as AM and SH, saw the two victims enter the neighborhood at 4 a.m. and take a motorcycle from a house belonging to Ujo, 34.
'The two witnesses screamed 'maling' [thief] to wake up residents and, seconds later, dozens of residents apprehended the two victims, who were then beaten,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Adi said he and his subordinates arrived at the scene only 30 minutes after the two were beaten.
He added that the police seized a motorcycle and T-key used by the two victims as evidence for the investigation into the case
